Former Madera Coyotes standouts Ethan Richardson and Alec Gamboa have made big impacts for their Fresno City College Rams’ teams.

Most recently, Gamboa was named the NorCal Player of the Week by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association.

In a March 22 victory over Porterville, Gamboa got the win with five perfect innings of work. Gamboa struck out 14 of the 15 batters.

He also suffered a one-run loss to College of the Sequoias on March 29 in his most recent outing after tossing seven innings of two-run ball. He struck out five.

Gamboa has four starts this season with nine appearances. He has a 1.84 ERA in 29 1/3 innings pitched with 51 strikeouts and just seven walks. He has allowed just six earned runs with a 3-1 record.

Richardson led the Rams to the final four of the State Championship after leading the Rams to a 13-1 Central Valley Conference men’s basketball championship and a 28-5 overall record.

Richardson, a sophomore, earned first team All-Central Valley Conference honors in his first year with the Rams. He led the Rams in scoring with 16.3 points per game, starting 21 of 32 games. He also shot 38.1 percent from 3-point range to go with a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game.

He scored double-digits in his final 10 games and scored more than 30 points three times. He also went 11-for-11 from the field and scored 24 points in a playoff victory over Yuba College.

Sophomore guard Ashley Hansen (Madera) played in 32 of Merced College’s 33 games this season. She averaged 7.8 points per game for the Devils. She scored a career-high 20 points in a 104-60 victory over Rio Hondo in December.
