A burglary of a Madera Ranchos restaurant may have been solved through cooperation between the Madera County and Fresno County sheriff’s departments.

Jacob Sonny Lopez, a 34-year-old Clovis resident, has been arrested on suspicion of the burglary of a Ranchos family-owned restaurant.

On March 4, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office answered a call for service over a burglary.

The owner of the restaurant reported to Sheriff’s Cadet I Brandon Smith that a man had entered the business earlier that day and had taken approximately $1,500 in cash.

Security footage was obtained, and after an investigation of several weeks by sheriff’s detectives, an identification of the suspect was made.

It turned out that Lopez had been taken into custody by Fresno County deputies on another charge.

While in custody in Fresno County, Madera County Sheriff’s Detective Luis Padgett interviewed Lopez regarding the burglary at the Rice Bowl.

A comparison of security footage from that theft provided a positive match of Lopez as the suspect in the case.

On March 19, Lopez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on felony charges of grand theft out of Madera County, as well as unrelated felony charges out of Fresno County. He remains in custody without bail.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Madera County Sheriff’s Office at 559-675-7770.
