Opinion: A solution to the drug problem
Recently on the television news, ABC 30 reported a documentary from Vice News. It said Fresno had been named methamphetamine capital of the nation. Sheriff Margaret Mims takes issue with that characterization — while admitting there is a serious drug problem in Fresno, especially among the homeless population.
She said while drug labs are no longer a big problem in Fresno, cheap meth is pouring into the area from Mexico. Yet there are still people who oppose border security and building of the wall. The country is also plagued with what is being characterized as an opioid epidemic.
Here is a thought that won’t be popular anywhere. If Meth and Oxycodone were sold without requiring a prescription in the manner known as “over-the-counter,” the people wanting these drugs would have legal easy access to them. If people abuse these drugs as they are wont to do, they should not be administered Naloxone when they take too many pills but be allowed to escape their pain for good.
In this country, there are too many nanny state laws. Consenting adults should be able to consume any substance they desire without restriction. Seatbelt, motorcycle and bicycle helmet laws infringe on personal freedoms.
The process where drugs are created mystifies me. As an example, Prevagen is a medicine containing a substance known as apoaequorin. It has been developed to help improve one’s memory. It is made from jellyfish. Whoever thought to distill some part of a jellyfish to create a diet supplement?
Ever wonder what uses there could be for dryer lint? Since it is highly flammable, it makes for good kindling. The substance is good when used as stuffing for animals or dolls. Other craft projects, such as paper and clay making are other uses for dryer lint.
According to Google, there are “2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss. Failure to clean the dryer (34 percent) is the leading cause of home clothes dryer fires.”
Clean the lint catcher and the vent to outside often.
It would be great if a cure for cancer could be made from dryer lint.

The recent rainstorms have the month of March coming in like a lion so it should go out like a lamb, according to the Old Farmers’ Almanac. The precipitation has been most welcome to an area that before last year suffered for four years from a horrible drought. Our part of California doesn’t typically get much in the way of weather. I enjoy watching the rain out of my window as long as I am not driving in it.
