Tesoro Viejo to hold grand opening

For The Madera Tribune The much-anticipated Tesoro Viejo community will celebrate its grand opening Saturday. New model homes will be open Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Just 10 minutes north of River Park off State Route 41, the award-winning master-planned community delivers an unprecedented place to live, work, and play.

There are things worth celebrating, and the grand opening of the Tesoro Viejo’s Town Center is one of them. On Saturday, Tesoro Viejo will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community festival featuring music, food and family activities. Business and community leaders, as well as elected officials and the community, are encouraged to come together in celebration.

Tesoro Viejo’s town center is a place where you can meet neighbors for coffee, enjoy a local brew or sip wine at the local eatery, and enjoy community events at the event lawn in the center of it all. Nestled at the foot of Little Table Mountain, Tesoro Viejo is a site of about 1,600 acres of gently rolling hills and vistas. It is southeastern Madera County’s newest master-planned community just off State Route 41, just minutes north of the River Park Shopping Center.

“There is a feeling that is being captured here — and that feeling is one that you get from visiting main street of a small town,” said Robert McCaffrey, CEO of Tesoro Viejo Development. “The town center will be the place where everything you need and desire is here — a place to gather with neighbors, family and friends.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick off the Oct. 20 event at 10:30 a.m., with festivities planned through 1:30 p.m. The event will feature Madera County Sheriff Jay Varney, Madera County Fire Chief Nancy Koerperich, the Madera County Board of Supervisors, Fresno State cheerleaders and mascot Timeout, Valley Children’s Hospital mascot George, Minarets High School drumline and cheerleaders, as well as business and community leaders.

Located in the town center is “The Hub” — Tesoro Viejo’s innovative welcome center with approximately 7,800 square feet — that will feature Axis, a neighborhood coffee bar and eatery, plus multi-use offices. In addition, the event lawn will deliver an outdoor atmosphere for community entertainment and activities.

Axis Coffee Bar and Eatery will offer fair-trade coffee sourced from around the world in a warm and welcoming environment. The seasonal food menu is thoughtfully sourced and utilizes organic and local produce and meats. The inviting space with rich colors and textures may inspire leisurely coffee dates with friends or a relaxing glass of wine or craft beer in the evenings. From classic cappuccinos and lattes, to affogato and ice cream espresso blends made with local ice cream, there is something for all coffee lovers.

The town center is the home to Madera County Fire Station No. 7 — “Lucky Number 7” — and a Madera County Sheriff substation. The fire station and sheriff substation will be housed in a 4,600-square-foot building planned to open this fall.

“Tesoro Viejo is an excellent example of good planning and partnership,” said Madera County Supervisor Brett Frazier. “We commend the Tesoro Viejo development team for their foresight and planning to ensure the necessary public services are in place from day one — they are funding this important public service that will benefit the residents of Tesoro Viejo, and also residents in southeastern Madera County.”

Tesoro Viejo means “old treasure,” and the town center captures the essence of that with its mature trees. Even before you arrive at Tesoro Viejo, you can see the tree-lined streets dotted with mature stately California Sycamore trees. In 2008 — 10 years before construction on Tesoro Viejo began — an on-site tree nursery was planted to grow local trees to be planted throughout the community.

Approved for up to 5,190 homes in nine distinct, walkable villages, the community will be a vibrant hub with housing and business opportunities, a walkable town center, thriving industry, and neighborhood parks and schools. The community features 3 million square feet of non-residential space for commercial, retail, professional office, and light industrial opportunities.

The first village, Hillside Village, will offer up to 800 homes that provide diverse housing options to fit a wide range of lifestyles and needs. The first model homes in Hillside Village will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Offered by McCaffrey Homes, the Altura Collection starts in the low $300s and was planned with the active lifestyle in mind with modern conveniences, minimum maintenance, and maximum style and quality.

Hillside Village will feature a resort-style clubhouse, amphitheater and neighborhood parks. In the heart of Hillside Village is Chawanakee Unified School District’s new Hillside School, that opened for the 2018-19 school year and serves students from transitional kindergarten through 8th grade.

Recognized for its innovative design, Tesoro Viejo creates a truly walkable community where the extensive trail system leads to the town center — a place to connect with neighbors, family, and friends.

Bring your family Saturday to celebrate Tesoro Viejo’s town center and be a part of something special.
