Chowchilla City Council Member Waseem Ahmed has filed for re-election in the Nov. 6 General Election.
Ahmed is seeking his second term as a Chowchilla City Council member.
Prior to his election to the City Council in 2014, Ahmed served as chair of the Chowchilla Planning Commission.
In 2016, he was chosen mayor by his City Council colleagues.
“It’s been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Chowchilla over the past four years,” Ahmed said. “I am proud of the progress we have made in making Chowchilla a more vibrant and livable community by adding more police officers and fire protection to keep our residents safe. We have improved our roads and streets, reducing commute times and bettering traffic safety.
“We have increased retail shopping opportunities while safeguarding taxpayer dollars and balancing our city budget. We have accomplished much and I’m excited about our community’s future. I am seeking re-election, so we can continue to move Chowchilla forward together,” said Ahmed, who has earned the endorsements of all 5 Madera County Supervisors, Chowchilla Mayor Dennis Haworth, Mayor Pro Tem Ray Barragan, Council Members John Chavez and Mary Gaumnitz, Madera Mayor Andrew Medellin, Madera Council Members Will Oliver and Charles Rigby former Madera County Supervisor and Chowchilla Mayor Vern Moss, former editor of the Chowchilla News Patty Mandrell, Steve’s Chevrolet GM Wayne Chapman, Niki Upton of London Properties, Scott Thomson of Thomson Architectural Group, Jerry Perez, Marlene Holst, retired Chowchilla Friends of the Library member Pat Ginsburg, former Chowchilla High School Principal Bob Green, Chowchilla real estate developer Wayne Moles, former Chowchilla High School District Superintendent Dr. Ronald Moore, former Greenhill Homeowners Association Board Member Froylan Pulido, former Chowchilla Mayor Jim Kopshever, former Mayor Pro Tem Mathew Zimmer, former Chowchilla Mayors Eric Haupt and Roy Price.
Waseem was reared and graduated from high school in Concord.
Ahmed currently serves on the Madera County Transportation Commission, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Citizens Advisory Board, and the Madera County Economic Development Commission.
Previously, Ahmed was the Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce president and chairman of the Planning Commission and on the Chowchilla Industrial Development Corporation, the Chowchilla Parks and Recreation Commission and the Madera County Workforce Investment Board.
Ahmed is a rancher.
