Pair who met at Fair will wed there

Madera District Fair Madera residents Lupe Martinez Jr. and Dezarea Pack had their first “date” at the 2011 Madera Fair, and will wed at this year’s event.

Madera residents Lupe Martinez Jr. and Dezarea Pack had their first “date” at the 2011 Madera Fair, dancing the night away to Billy Currington. After seven years together, they will exchange vows at the 2018 Madera Fair Get Hitched wedding, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m.

On Feb. 14, Madera District Fair kicked off a contest searching for a couple with Madera County ties to “get hitched” at the 2018 Fair. The office received 12 applicants, who were narrowed to three finalists and the finalists were then turned over to the public via Facebook polling for selection of the winning couple.

The couple will exchange vows at the amphitheater stage and lawn area with Madera County Clerk Rebecca Martinez officiating. The whole community is invited, as fair guests can easily view the procession, ceremony and festivities held for Lupe and Dezarea and their 100-plus guests.

Fair concessionaires are adding to the reception with corndogs, tri-tip sliders, corn in a cup and even a cinnamon roll wedding cake from Madera Fair favorite Old West Cinnamon Rolls.

Madera Fair CEO Tom Mitchell said, “The Fair is a place for people to make memories and what better way to make a memory than to have a wedding during the Fair. We hope that our community will come out and support Lupe and Dezarea as they ride into this new chapter of their lives!”

Guests can catch wedding events such as the couple’s bouquet toss and first dance, along with a ride on the Ferris wheel, or you might even catch them kickin’ up their booths at the Josh Turner concert that night.

The 2018 ground act and entertainment schedule is full with jugglers, a hypnotist, magicians, balloonists, local talent and more covering the grounds and stages. A thrilling BMX Stunt Show and Dinosaur Exhibit are new to the 2018 exciting line-up.

The free Table Mountain concert series presented by Tecate Light begins with War on Thursday, Sept. 6, followed by rock legend Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Sept. 7. Josh Turner hits the stage on Saturday, Sept. 8, with two entertainers, Roberto Tapia and Banda Machos, closing the series on Sunday, Sept. 9. All concerts are free with paid gate admission.

The Madera Fair will open Thursday, Sept. 6, and run through Sunday, Sept. 9.

Pre-sale admission and carnival coupons are on sale now through Sept. 5 online, at the Madera Fair office and at Rancho San Miguel on Yosemite Avenue in Madera.
