Pop-Up event planned for downtown

Madera 125, a summer pop-up event, will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. June 15 at Cesar Chavez Plaza on North E Street between Yosemite Avenue and 5th Street.

The cost is $5 for adults and children are free.

The celebration is planned to commemorate Madera County’s 125th anniversary, being celebrated this year. The event is sponsored by Madera Young Professionals.

One of the goals of that group is to bring people into the downtown corridor.

Co-hosts include: the Madera Downtown Association, Madera Sunrise Rotary, Riley’s Brewing, Crown Services, and Camarena Health Centers.

Downtown restaurants and vendors are encouraged to participate. Space is limited and only available on a first-come, first-served basis, the organizers said.

In a news release, the group said Cesar Chavez Plaza is an ideal location, “to bring people from our community together in a fun and casual setting to enjoy a Friday night outing. This new summertime gathering will feature live music, children’s activities, corn hole competition, food, beverages, good company and more. The Madera County Arts Council will feature a pop-up art show highlighting area artist.”

The music group The Experience will deliver a live performance. Mandolinist Eva Scow, drummer Ray Moore, guitarist Mike Taylor and bassist Patrick Olvera join to combine their love of jazz, soul, and Brazilian music.

The Madera Young Professionals group is comprised of career-minded individuals interested in contributing to the community and making a difference. They also seek opportunities to develop socially, professionally, and civically to prepare themselves for current and future roles in Madera that will result in positive change.

Members of the organizing committee for the Pop-Up are Will Oliver, Anthony Duhon, Dan Riley, Monica Davis, Abel Perez, Alex Salazar, Yuliana Franco and Steve Copland.

Madera’s local brewery, Riley’s Brewing, will sell its lager, Madera 125, a craft beer the company created in celebration of Madera County’s anniversary. They will also have their soft root beer available as well as other adult and non-alcoholic beverages.

Madera Downtown Association, Madera Sunrise Rotary, and Camarena Health Centers have helped fund the event.
