Stallion with Vikings remain undefeated

Former Madera South Stallions boys volleyball player Carlos Hernandez has helped the Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team to an 17-0 record to open the season.


In 13 matches this season, Hernandez is averaging 1.39 kills per set. He has 39 kills to go with 45 blocks. He has played in 28 of the Vikings’ 57 sets this season.


Javier Arreguin (Madera South) has played in 52 of Missouri Valey College’s 77 sets this season. He has recorded 58 kills or 1.12 kills per game. He also has 77 digs to go with six aces. Missouri Valley lost in the championship game of the Heart of America Athletic Conference tournament to just miss out on a bid for the NAIA championship.


Bethune-Cookman University’s Mariah Davis (Madera) celebrated her final softball home game as a Wildcat by going 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI in a 4-3 victory over North Carolina Central on April 8.


Davis is tied for fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conerence with 26 runs scored. She is third with 42 hits. Davis is also second in the conference with 28 stolen bases (out of 31 attempts) ,second in plate appearances and first in at bats.


Montevallo senior Darbi Duke (Liberty) is eighth in the Gulf South Conference in batting average. She is also seventh in on base percentage (.509), third in runs scored. She leads the GSC with 42 stolen bases, 14 more than the next player.


College of the Sequias pitcher Arianna Guzman (Liberty) is first in the state with 28 games started for the Giants. Guzman is also third in the state with 18 victories, third with 20 complete games, fifth with six shutouts, third with 169 innings pitched and fifth in strikeouts.


COS teammate Ana Hayes (Liberty) is 16th in the state with seven home runs. She is also 21st in the state with 33 RBIs.
