Sean Dix, 19, reportedly took out a knife and stabbed his father to death as the two sat in a pickup close by a relatives home near south I and 7th Streets.

Detective Sgt. Mark Trukki said the incident happened about 7:40 Tuesday evening, apparently after an argument between the two men began. The motive for the stabbing was unknown at press time.

Jose Moreno, 44, was stabbed multiple times in the upper chest as he sat behind the steering wheel. Bleeding profusely, the victim was able to exit the black Chevy Silverado and collapsed in a nearby yard. He later died at Community Regional Medical Center.

Moreno leaves behind five children.

“(After the stabbing) Dix had fled to the relatives home,” Trukki said. “They called us and Dix confessed to the crime. He was cooperative — emotional and even remorseful — but he is not disclosing his motive for the fatal stabbing.”

Detectives are hoping family members can shed more light on the situation.

According to Trukki, Dix has has no criminal or gang history, and no alcohol or drugs were found at the scene. Dix’s parents reportedly may have recently separated but it was unknown if that was a contributing factor. Toxicology reports are pending.

Dix is charged with felony murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

Family members told news crews Dix was a straight A student, had recently enlisted in the military and was engaged to be married later this year.
