Mel Parker Field rededicated

It took nearly two years, but the new Mel Parker Field is ready for its unveiling.

After a wind storm broke two telephone poles onto the Mel Parker Field backstop and damaging bleachers, work has finally been completed on the new and improved ballpark.

The field will be officially open today before the Madera Coyotes baseball team’s first pitch of the season at 10:45 a.m. A recognition ceremony and ceremonial first pitch will take place prior to the season opener against Sunnyside-Fresno.

Dugouts were moved, a new snack bar was built, bathrooms were moved, a new and enlarged press box/announcer’s booth was created for the new Mel Parker Field.

“Let’s pack the grand stands and enjoy a great day of baseball in our newly updated facility,” athletics director John Fernandez said.
