Man charged with attempted murder

A man has been arrested and charged with the attempted murder of another man on Jan. 20, although the suspect says the shooting was accidental, the result of the two men playing with guns.

The victim, Jujhar Singh, was reportedly shot just after noon in the 19000 block of Avenue 24, according to Kayla Serrato of the office of Madera county Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about the shooting, and found Jujhar Singh lying on the ground in the driveway on the east side of the residence, with multiple gunshot wounds to his hand, chest and back.

Singh told officers he had been shot by one Manpreet Singh, whom he said had fled the scene driving a black Mercedes SUV.

When emergency medical personnel arrived, they determined Jujhar Singh would need a higher level of care than they could provide.

Singh was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.

A short time later Manpreet Singh returned to the scene and was detained by deputies. He then was was taken to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office where he was interviewed by detectives. Manpreet Singh admitted to shooting Jujhar Singh but said it was an accident and they were just playing with guns.

Manpreet Singh was placed under arrest and taken to the Madera County Department of Corrections, where he was booked without incident on felony charges of attempted murder.
