Edison scores six in rout over Stallions

The Madera South Stallions girls soccer team couldn’t fight their way back after conceding three first-half goals in a 6-1 County/Metro Athletic Conference loss to Edison-Fresno Tigers at Lee DaSilva Field in Memorial stadium.
“Today, it seemed like they came to cruise,” Stallions head coach Ramon Delgadillo said, frankly. “Everything is mental at this point. We’ve done our practices and everything else possible to get better. I think with a young team like this, everything is mental.”
Behind four goals from Abigail Borchers, the Tigers controlled the game and continued their unblemished record in the CMAC.
With a 3-0 record in the CMAC, the Tigers of Edison have proven their class and, against the Stallions, that was on display early and often.
The Tigers played a team-driven game. Accurate passing, smart tackles and, more importantly, quick movement led to a win.
A combination of clinical finishing and immense pace gave the Tigers a two-goal lead within the first thirty minutes before a third goal made the lead seem almost impossible.
Madera South was outplayed and out hustled throughout the first half.
The Stallions hoped for an improved second half, however, containing the lethal Tigers was a task too big for the home team.
Borchers continued her good form in the second half with a goal to seal the game for Edison.
She collected a loose ball in the Stallions final third before burying an easy right-footed shot in the 54th minute. She added another goal 10 minutes later.
Although the night featured the Edison Tigers primarily, Madera South was determined not to go away empty handed.
Perseverance paid off after Jasmine Salazar after she picked her spot and fired in a looping shot over the Edison keeper for the goal.
Although the game was out of reach by then, being able to grab a goal gave the Stallions a positive on a night full of negatives.
