Madera CHP responsible for 1,500 miles

The Madera area of the California Highway Patrol is responsible for 1,800 square miles of jurisdiction, including 1,500 miles of roadway in Madera County in the geographic center of California.

The Madera CHP is staffed by 29 uniformed personnel, including lieutenant commander and three sergeants. The area is responsible for traffic enforcement and the investigation of traffic collisions in unincorporated Madera County.

The Madera CHP’s jurisdiction includes approximately 20 miles of State Route 99, 16 miles of State Route 152.

Madera’s office also offers many programs to ensure motorists’ safety throughout the county, including Smart Start for teen drives, Age Well, Drive Smart for senior drives, Teen and Distracted Drivers for all drivers, Every 15 Minutes for high schools, bicycle and pedestrian safety course, child occupant restraint education and child seat fittings and Have a Good Ride for motorcycle safety.

The office is also active in helping with the both Madera and Madera South high schools’ sober graduation celebration ceremony to help keep graduating seniors safe.
