FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — An official says a man who was heading to court in Fresno to finalize a plea deal over car theft charges was arrested while driving a stolen truck.
Fresno County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tony Botti says a deputy on Tuesday stopped 52-year-old Timothy Lane of Dinuba while he drove a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup truck that had been reported as stolen.
He says Lane told the deputy he did not know the truck was stolen and that he was heading to court to accept a 3 ½ years in jail plea deal in an auto theft case.
Botti says the deputy arrested him after seeing the truck's ignition had been altered and pliers were being used to start the engine.
Deputies booked Lane into the Fresno County jail on felony charges of auto theft and possession of stolen property.
