Spring wine trail nears

Those who wish to celebrate mothers, springtime or the fruits of the vine will be able to tour seven wineries amid the still green countryside next weekend during Madera Wine Trail’s Spring Wine Trail Adventure.

The Mother’s Day weekend wine trail will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 13-14 at Birdstone Winery, Fasi Estate Winery, Idle Hour Winery, Papagni Wines, San Joaquin Wine Company, Toca Madera Winery and, by appointment only, Westbrook Wine Farm.

As in the past, a non-refundable wine glass and wristband are one’s passport to participating wineries for those ages 21 and older. These are $30 during the wine trail or $25 if purchased in advance at Toca Madera Winery or San Joaquin Wine Company. Designated drivers can take part free of charge.

  • Fasi Estate Winery (42415 Road 208, Friant) plans to showcase three wines: 2015 Sauvignon Blanc with savory grilled chicken sausage, 2015 Syrah Rose with melon bites and 2014 Malbec with Swiss chocolates.

  • Papagni Wines (9505 Road 30 1/2) will pour bold reds, specialty wines and others for refreshment along with hand-crafted chocolate truffles form Fab Delights, Hawaiian luau pork sliders from chefs Chuck and Sherry Rovenstine, and paintings by Aida Renteria Marquez.

  • San Joaquin Wine Company (21821 Ave. 16) will offer wine, fresh paninis by Mojo’s Catering, You Sweet Thing jellies and jams, Miner’s Mix rubs and seasonings, LuLaRoe clothing, Granny Bea’s handmade soaps and more.

  • Toca Madera Winery (36140 Ave. 9) will open estate-bottled Temperanillo Reserve and Mirame Rose as well as feature music, including Marie Wilson on Sunday, food and crafts, bocce ball and a rose for every mother.

  • Westbrook Wine Farm (49610 House Ranch Road, O’Neals) will only confirm a limited number of serious tasters to sample complex red and white Bordeaux/Meritage style wines as well as Cal-Ital varieties: Primitivo de gioia and Madera Barbera.
