Shooting may be gang-related

Madera Police are continuing to investigate a shooting in southern Madera that left a juvenile and one other person wounded.

“At this point, we don’t have any good descriptions of the suspects,” said Madera Police Det. Sgt. Mark Trukki, “but we do believe it was involving and revolving around gang ties, so it is gang-related.”

According to Trukki, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of D Street on Monday evening, after receiving a call that shots had been fired. Upon arriving, they found two male victims with gunshot wounds. One victim, a minor, had been shot in the leg, while the other victim, an adult, had been hit in the shoulder. Stray bullets also struck a nearby home which had four children inside. No one in the house was injured.

Before the shooting, an altercation was reported to have broken out nearby.

“Prior to that, units were dispatched to the same general area regarding a physical fight,” Trukki said, “but upon their arrival then, there was nothing found or seen.”

Both victims were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno and are expected to make a full recovery.
