A soup and desert luncheon will benefit the Madera Rescue Mission on Monday. This major fundraiser includes a bake sale beginning at 9:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, 2300 Sunset Ave. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are children, $3, and adults, $10.

The rescue mission auxiliary is a service club that helps fund the work of the Madera Rescue Mission.

“We meet the third Friday of the month at different local churches,” said Betty Smith chairwoman for the luncheon.

There will be about 10 different soups served, including ones donated by Farnesi’s, DiCicco’s, IHOP and Perko’s restaurants, said Smith.

Raffle tickets for a $100 Save Mart gift card are $1 each or six tickets for $5 she said. The drawing will be held at 1 p.m.

Membership in the auxiliary is open to both men and women. A typical meeting brings 30 to 35 people out with the total membership about 50, Smith said.

Each month there is a short business meeting, a speaker and music, said Smith.

Past projects funded by the auxiliary include window blinds, folding chairs and a rack, she said. The bake sale could benefit from more donations at this point she said. Anyone who would like to help can call Betty Smith, 674-4969.
