Dragon sculpture at Madera library officially named

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune

Members, from left, Carolyn David, Nancy Simpson, Lynda Schafhauser and Librarian Patrick Fitzgerald present tote bags to an adult winner, Godfrey Coppinger (second from left), and youth winner Christina Gomez in a Name the Dragon contest.

A metal dragon sculpture on display at the Madera library now has a name, and two patrons won the honor of choosing it.

Patrons Godfrey Coppinger and Christina Gomez won tote bags, $50 and several gift cards for contributing their winning nominations. The name of the dragon is now Rusty “Scarlett” Pendragon.

Friends of Madera County Library hosted a Name the Dragon contest for the sculpture created by Jose Guadalupe Garcia. The artwork will remain at the library until sold.

The library can be found at 121 N. G St. or online at www.maderacountylibrary.org
