Health fair helps community

Hundreds of Maderans came out for information, food, and even haircuts at the Rotary Community Health Fair.
“We’re wanting the community to come in and gain access to some of the services that the community offers,” said Claudia Densmore of Madera Rotary. “Anybody is welcome. It was offered to anybody who wants to come and see what’s available to them.”
The fair, which was held at the Pan-American Community Center at 703 Sherwood Way, was opportunity for Madera County residents to receive information on healthcare options, insurance and nutrition, get their blood pressure checked, and receive a free meal.
“This is all to help the residents of Madera, the rank and file, to take care of their health,” said Madera County District 4 Supervisor Max Rodriguez, in whose district the Pan-American Community Center is located. “And they do so, many don’t realize what they’re doing, what they’re eating… they try to educate the people.”
One of those in attendance at the health fair was Oscar Cordova, who arrived early and filled his bag with pamphlets.
“I got a lot of stuff for my wife, too, that she would be interested in participating in,” Cordova said. “Because she wants to do some volunteer work, and there’s a lot of information here to give her.”
