Madera County Sheriff’s divers found the body of a missing 16-year-old Coarsegold girl today in the driver’s seat of her car, which was underwater in a large pond at Indian Lakes.
Authorities had been searching for Jenna Borrayo since she had been reported missing Wednesday. The discovery of some personal items of hers near the pond led the sheriff’s Dive Team to begin checking it out. An aerial search using a drone today helped deputies spot a vehicle in a previously unsearched area of the water.
Divers “recovered the vehicle,” which “was confirmed to belong to the missing girl, and she was the sole occupant,” said Sheriff’s Cmdr. Bill Ward. “At this point, there are no indications that any other people were involved in the death.”
Borrayo had last been seen alive 10 p.m. Tuesday driving a gray Dodge Dart, according to Gina Clugston of Sierra News Online, and had then fallen silent online and over the telephone.
