Rains flood Madera

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune

The intersection of Schnoor Avenue and Howard Road is flooded Friday afternoon.

Madera and its surrounding area received considerably more rain than usual Friday, when nearly an inch fell, according to Weather Underground.

There was some flooding in the Sierra foothills, and some urban streets were backed up when storm drains couldn’t handle the excess of rain that fell throughout Friday afternoon.

By evening, though, the rain had eased and most flooded urban areas were draining successfully. Today is expected to be partly cloudy, with no precipitation on the Valley floor.

The Fresno and San Joaquin rivers will continue to run high, although neither has flooded.

High temperatures for today are expected to be in the high 50s to low 60s after 40s in the morning.
