Stallions snap skid with win

The Madera South Stallions girls basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak after they dominated the Edison-Fresno Tigers 57-30 in a County/Metro Athletic Conference win.
“It felt good to get this victory, not because we won by a big amount, but because our players bought into what we were doing and they started believing,” head coach Johnny Sharp said. “We worked a lot harder in practice. We got back that mentality that we have to play hard all the way through.”
Led by Simone Baker with 19 points and Aleecia Rosel, who added 17, the Stallions shook off a tough losing streak to get back in the win column after winning their first two games of the CMAC schedule.
The Stallions dominated early in the first quarter after going on a 7-1 run to begin the game. Lexi Eller got the Stallions off to a hot start after she assisted on an open layup to Baker and followed up with a long distance 3-pointer. Eller finished with eight points.
With three and a half minutes remaining, the Stallions were leading 10-1. The Tigers put a few points on the board early, however the Stallions were focused on ending their recent string of losses.
The second quarter started off with a bang for the Stallions after Rosel connected on a 3-pointer to open the quarter. The Stallions raced out to a 5-0 run after Lanaye Brewer connected on a tough layup inside.
Baker began to heat up in the second quarter after she drove to the basket for two points and the foul. The Stallions outscored the Tigers 12-8 in the second quarter and 24-12 for the first half.
Rosel took over after the break with nine points in the quarter. She knocked down three triples in the span of five minutes to extend the lead.
The Stallions continued their scoring touch to end the quarter leading by 21 points.
Moosey Warren and Brewer highlighted the fourth quarter with back-to-back steals and layups to lead by 25. The Stallions closed out the game after Rosel connected on her team-high fourth 3-pointer of the game.
