Two killed in Madera wreck

A collision on Avenue 14 and Road 19 left two dead and one injured. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
A man and a woman were killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle collision at Avenue 14 and Road 19 west of Madera. Another man was injured.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Josh McConnell, the accident occurred when the driver of a white Ford Crown Victoria sedan was going southbound on Road 19, when it reached a stop sign. The driver of the sedan reportedly stopped, and then proceeded through the intersection, when it was hit from the side by a white pickup truck carrying a septic tank. The pickup was eastbound on Avenue 14. The collision drove the car into a bollard. The truck, McConnell said, was going approximately 55 mph when it struck the sedan.
“It’s understood that the truck was traveling eastbound,” McConnell said, “where there is no control.”
The collision killed the passenger of the Ford car, a white female in her mid 80s. The driver of the car, a white male in his mid 80s, was severely injured, and was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he later died.
Complaining of minor injuries, the driver of the truck was taken by ambulance to Madera Community Hospital.
The names of the victims had not been made public at press time (Tuesday).
