Plunge to benefit Stallions aquatics

The Madera South athletics boosters, in conjunction with the Madera South swimming and water polo programs are hosting the first Polar Plunge Challenge on Jan. 14 at the South swimming pool.

Proceeds will benefit the Madera South aquatics program. The cost is $10 to participate and each swimmer will receive a T-shirt. Non-participants can also purchase the T-shirt for $15. Lil’ Coyotes begins Saturday Madera High School hosts its annual Lil’ Coyotes basketball program, beginning Saturday through Feb. 11. Lil’ Coyotes is open to boys and girls in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. The cost is $50 per child. Sign-ups will be accepted on the first day of play. All participants will receive six on-hour sessions of fundamentals-based instruction and game play. Participants will be split into groups according to grade to keep play age appropriate. The boys will play in Joe Flores Gym while the girls will play in the Olive Street gyms. MNLL sign-ups Madera National Little League began sign-ups for the upcoming baseball and softball season. Registration for the season will be on the next four Saturdays at Town and Country Park from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $60 per player, plus a $40 fundraising requirement for softball players and $75 per play and a $60 fundraising requirement for baseball players. On Jan. 14, the league will host a clinic for players trying out for Rookie, AAA and Majors at Town and Country Park from 1-3 p.m. The league will hold tryouts on Jan. 21 and Jan. 28 for Rookie, AAA, Majors and Intermediate teams, beginning at 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. For information, contact Kris Gamiz at 715-1515, Rosemary Calderon at 871-5582, Rolando Arredondo at 981-0499 or Cynthia Armiento (softball) at 917-5037. Second Wind 5K Sign-ups for the Second Wind 5K have already begun. Sign-up to run or walk in the only sanctioned 5K in Madera at www. runsignup.com/Race/CA/Madera/SecondWind5k. The race will be held at the Madera Speedway and will begin at 8 a.m. on March 25. The fee to sign up is $20 until Jan. 27 and runners can go to website to complete registration. There will also be a kids mini sprint for children ages 2-10. The cost is $15 until March 6. Registration will also be taken at the website.
