Christmas tree disposal planned

After the holiday season is over, some may be wondering how to get rid of their biggest decoration — the Christmas tree. But those living in Madera needn’t worry.

According to the City of Madera, Mid Valley Disposal will pick up natural Christmas trees (not artificial) on one’s regular garbage collection day Jan. 2-6. All lights, decorations, tinsel and tree stands must be removed before trees are placed next to trash carts. Trees over 6 feet tall should be cut in half.

Trees should not be put in any type of plastic wrap or bag. Small trees may be placed inside an organics cart if they’re cut in small pieces so they won’t get stuck in the cart or keep the lid from closing.

For those who miss their pickup date, Christmas trees may also be disposed of by cutting them up into smaller pieces and placing the pieces into one’s green cart.
