Walker stars for Fresno Pacific

Madera South's Ana Walker has started 13 of 14 matches this season for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.

 

After starring at Madera South, Ana Walker is doing the same thing for the Fresno Pacific University women’s soccer team.

Walker has started 14 of 15 matches for the Sunbirds as a defender. She has one assist this season, but has helped the Sunbirds to a 7-6-1 record this season.

At the Triton Classic in La Jolla on the campus of UC San Diego, Ann Poythress (Madera) helped the Fresno Pacific cross country team to a sixth place finish. She was second on the team with a 10th place finish.

At the PacWest Championships on Oct. 22, the Sunbirds placed seventh. Poythress finished 27th overall and was second on the team.

UC Merced cross country runners Angelica Costilla (Madera South) and Karina Martinez (Madera South) helped lead the Bobcats to a seventh place finish at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 15. Costilla led the women’s team with a 28th place finish. Martinez was sixth on the team in 98th place.

Dominique Andrews (Madera South) tied for the team lead with six kills in a three-set loss to Benedictine College on Oct. 14 for the UC Merced women’s volleyball team. The next day, Andrews recorded nine kills in a four-set victory over Embry-Riddle.

On Oct. 22, Andrews put down six kills in a three-set victory over Antelope Valley. Meanwhile, Madera’s Miranda Brunner put down five kills to go with seven kills for Antelope Valley.

Brielle Hefner (Madera) had seven kills in an Oct. 22 three-set loss to Colorado State for the Fresno State women’s volleyball team.

In a three-set loss to Graceland on Tuesday, Lilly Martinez (Madera South) recorded six kills. She had nine in two matches on Oct. 22.

Upper Iowa University senior defensive back Marcus McCoy (Madera South) had three tackles in an Oct. 22 loss to Augustana. He also recorded two pass breakups. McCoy will be one of the seniors honored in today’s game against Wayne State College.

West Hills quarterback Vincent Espinoza (Madera) threw for a touchdown to help the Falcons improve to 3-0 in the Golden Coast American Conference with a 21-17 victory over Monterey on Oct. 22. He was 10-of-18 for 79 yards.

Merced College return man Jackson Watts (Liberty) has missed the past few weeks with a collarbone injury. He hopes to be back before the end of the season.

Logan Pierce (Liberty) tied for the team lead with seven tackles for College of the Sequoias in their loss to Laney College. He also had a tackle for loss, a pass break-up and five solo tackles.

In a four-set victory over Laney College Kinsey Kerby (Madera) recorded a kill to go with three service aces on Oct. 21 for the Merced College women’s volleyball team.

Madera players had a big hand in Fresno City College’s 6-0 women’s soccer victory over College of the Sequoias on Oct. 21. Sophia Zertuche (Madera South) scored the match’s first goal, which was assisted by Jasmine Garibay (Madera South). Leila Monzon (Madera South) scored the second goal. Garibay added a goal in the second half and Juliet Trembley (Madera) closed out the scoring with the sixth goal of the match.
