After finally settling on a consistent line-up, Madera South Stallions girls volleyball coach Travis McEowen is still hoping to find that first County/Metro Athletic Conference victory.
Unfortunately, the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers dispatched the Stallions in three sets Tuesday to send the Stallions to 0-9 in the CMAC.
Lanaye Brewer led the Stallions with 10 kills and also had nine digs.
Two weeks ago, McEowen called up Bianca Guevara from the junior varsity to start at middle blocker, which allowed Brewer to line up at outside hitter and move Aleecia Rosel into a libero role. That helped in getting a set over Bullard, but couldn’t get a set from Memorial on Tuesday.
The Panthers jumped out to an 8-3 lead after a pair of aces. Led by two Brewer kills and two serves, the Stallions cut the lead to two.
The Panthers scored seven of the next nine points to open an 18-10 lead.
The two teams exchanged eight straight side outs with Brewer getting kills on two of them and Sophia Lopez and Taylor Rogers also recording side out kills.
After an ace, Memorial led 23-14. The Stallions scored two straight points, but Memorial scored two straight points for a 25-16 victory.
In the second set, the Panthers turned a 4-3 deficit, led by a Kylie Edelbacher kill for the Stallions, into a 12-4 lead after nine straight points. After an exchange of side outs, the Panthers scored three more points for a 16-5 lead.
The teams exchanged seven straight side outs with Kiara Alvarado recording two kills. The Panthers turned a service error into two points for a 23-11 lead.
Memorial closed the set with two straight points for a 25-11 victory.
After a Rosel kill, Rogers served up two aces for a 4-1 lead. Memorial came back with five straight points to take a 6-5 lead.
The Panthers extended the lead to four despite three side out kills from Brewer and side out kills from Guevara and Lopez.
Madera south cut the lead to four, but the Panthers scored three straight points for an 18-12 lead.
The Stallions scored two straight points as the Panthers missed serves. Two kills by Brewer cut the lead to six.
However, San Joaquin Memorial scored two points to get to set point. Despite a Rogers kill, Memorial closed the match with a kill for a 25-17 victory.
