The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1918 in Madera recently awarded its students of the month award for September to Malik Escheik and Kiyana Granados, who are eighth graders at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Escheik has demonstrated the qualities of good citizenship and is a respectful young man, said Becky Valdivia, guidance counselor at Thomas Jefferson.

Described as a positive student who has maintained excellent grades, he has a strong work ethic and is a leader, she said.

“He is a positive young man and maintains a determination to improve,” she said.

His hobbies include travelling, playing football and spending time with his family. He hopes to one day graduate from Florida State University.

Granados is described as an intelligent young woman who has maintained excellent grades and is involved in extra-curricular activities and leadership roles, Valdivia said.

“Kiyana is a responsible, respectful and hardworking student who contributes positive vibes to our school,” said Valdivia.

She dreams of attending Stanford University with hopes of becoming a pediatrician. She also aspires to be on the Olympic swim team.
