School board trustee files for re-election

Incumbent Ric Arredondo has filed for re-election to the Madera Unified School District Board of Trustees.
“I was born and reared in Madera, and attended James Monroe, Thomas Jefferson and Madera High schools,” Arredondo said. “In addition, my wife, Alyssia, and our five children attended, or are attending, Madera schools, including Sierra Vista School and Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.”
He said that during his eight years as a trustee, with two stints as president, “parental involvement has increased considerably. State agencies recently recognized Madera for strong parental engagement. Parent resource centers were developed to help parents understand what they can do to support their children academically and learn about higher education.”
He also said the child nutrition program has replaced frozen, pre-packaged lunches with fresh-food options, and lunches are free to all students.
He said the afterschool program has tripled enrollment, and Madera graduation rates are at “record levels!”
Arredondo said Career Tech Education pathways have been developed to offer students more career opportunities.
“We began construction on the new Virginia Lee Rose elementary school to reduce class sizes and passed a bond to build a new high school,” he said.
