County to consider spending half million on new morgue

The county will consider whether waiving fees for a proposed veterans care center, accepting an earmarked donation for an archaeological study, paying half a million to build a new morgue and more at its regular meeting Tuesday.

The Madera County Board of Supervisors will meet 8:30 a.m. in the board chambers of the government center, 200 West 4th St.

Items on the agenda include:

• Deciding whether to hire Simile Construction Service for $533,000 to handle the Madera County Morgue and Autopsy Tenant Improvement Project

• Whether to waive entitlement and permit fees for development of a disabled and homeless veteran residential care facility

• Possibly accepting a $26,438.60 donation from the Stewards of the Sierra National Forest that is earmarked for the Black Hawk Ranch Archaeological Study

• Pondering paying $28,800 for IV Tree Services to remove dead trees at Courthouse Memorial Park and Parkwood Park

• Hearings involving the sale of liquor at two local businesses
