Murder suspect arrested

The suspect in a fatal shooting Sunday is due to appear in court on July 18.

At Madera County Superior Court on Friday, Judge Ernest LiCalsi ordered the suspect, Andrew Chavez, 21, to return for a preliminary hearing, following his arraignment.

Chavez was arrested for the fatal shooting of Michael Sanchez, 35, of Los Banos.

According to Madera Police Lt. Brian Esteves, the shooting, which occurred on 11th Street and Gateway Drive on June 26, was gang-related, and was the result of a case of mistaken identity. “Apparently, he was wearing the wrong colors, of the rival gang,” Esteves said...
