Scoring barrage downs County squad, again

CLOVIS — The City squad scored three touchdowns in less than three minutes en route to a 27-0 victory over the County in the 62nd annual City/County All-Star football game at Clovis High School’s Lamonica Stadium.

Madera South’s Jose Sandoval, Steve Laxton and Rafael Rodriguez, along with Madera’s Kris Bueno, Chris Chapa and Evan Rios and Liberty’s Hunter Gray tried to help County record its first win in the series since 2012 Friday night.

Laxton started at center for the County in the first half. Bueno started and played almost every play on offense while Chapa did the same on defense. Rios had double-duty as the kicker and punter. Gray started and played most of the snaps on defense while Rodriguez and Sandoval also saw duty on defense.

“It feels great to be in a game like this to represent my school,” Laxton said. “My school has done so much for me. It feels nice to be able to represent them in a high caliber way. It’s not about winning. It’s about having fun with great competition.” ...
