Madera’s Mendrin gets victory in 8-4 win FRESNO — For four Madera County baseball players, it was one last hurrah in their high school uniforms before turning the page and heading to the next chapter.

Madera’s Isaac Rivera and Johnny Mendrin, Madera South’s Ruben Sanchez and Liberty’s Shawn Williams helped the County team break a three-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory in the City/County All-Star baseball game Saturday night at Fresno’s Chukchansi Park.

“It’s great to get a win,” Rivera said. “It’s the last time I get to do this. It’s amazing to be out here. It’s the best feeling to know I’m on the same field as the Fresno Grizzlies.”

Mendrin picked up the victory, tossing the fourth inning. He allowed a run, but struck out two. The County helped Mendrin out by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth for the victory...
