Police: 2 homeless men in Fresno badly beaten

June 4, 2016

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say two homeless men in Central California are in critical condition after being badly beaten in a back alley.

Lt. Joe Gomez of the Fresno Police Department said Friday that both men sustained severe head trauma, and one of them was cut on the face. The men are ages 36 and 56.

Gomez said it's unclear if the two men were beaten during a robbery, a dispute or for another reason.

He says that somebody reported finding the injured men, who were taken to a local hospital. There, one of them went into cardiac arrest but survived.

The case remains under investigation.
