Coyotes softball sweeps Sanger

After Friday’s rainout, the Madera Coyotes had to wait two days before a County/Metro Athletic Conference battle with the Sanger Apaches.

Using plenty of small ball, the Coyotes took advantage of Sanger miscues to record a 4-1 victory in Sanger to improve to 22-6 on the season and 7-1 to stay atop the CMAC standings. The win gives the Coyotes the season sweep after getting a walk-off walk in a 2-1 win April 19.

“That was a good win for us,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “Our speed is deadly and when we can put the ball on the ground, we force teams to make perfect plays and they don’t make perfect plays all the time”

Coyote pitcher Destiny Ricks scattered six hits and allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Madera took a 4-1 lead. She struck out seven and walked two. Ricks retired the first nine batters in order before allowing three straight hits in a run-scoring fourth...
