In 1957, Maderans had cause to stop and take stock. Fifty years earlier, in March 1907, the town became the only incorporated city in the county.

Madera’s 100th anniversary as an incorporated city is just around the corner. We will reach that centenary milestone in March 2007.
It took some people in Fresno County a long time to accept Madera County as an equal. When our bold, pioneer ancestors decided to separate and form their own county, they didn't surprise anyone.
