I just finished reading the January newsletter from the Madera Rescue Mission and the following caption caught my eye: “And how can we forget about the Red and Nancy Arnold Foundation.”

Red and Nancy Arnold were life long residents of Madera County. Those of us who knew them valued their friendship, admired their accomplishments and always enjoyed spending time with them. They lived conservatively and never flaunted their wealth.

Red and Nancy Arnold loved Madera, and as such made it clear to their nieces and nephew, the directors of the Arnold Foundation, that the foundation was to support local needs. Every citizen of Madera should be grateful to Red and Nancy Arnold — as well as to the Directors of the Arnold Foundation — for the donations to the following non profit organizations:

Madera Community Hospital .................... $4,600,000

Madera Animal Shelter ..................... $1,000,000

Madera Rescue Mission ..................... $500,000

Madera County Historical Society ........ $250,000

Hinds Hospice (For benefit of Madera patients) .................. $1,000,000

All of us who volunteer for these organizations will never forget the generosity of Red and Nancy Arnold. Their legacy will have a profound and positive effect for our entire community. The directors of the Foundation also deserve our appreciation, for no doubt the decisions they made were not made easily.

Anna da Silva,
Madera
