I attended the Madera Ranchos candidate forum for Supervisor District 1 earlier this month. I was impressed with the turnout, as there appeared to be about 100 people at Ranchos Middle School for the event. I was not, however, impressed with some of the candidates. It sounded like a typical press conference; non-substantive platitudes filled the air.
The only candidate, in my view, that was prepared to speak to the issues and answer questions with facts and experience was Ray Krause. He seems to be well versed on the water issues that plague our community and, even more important, was more visionary in his commitment to look for solutions. Most of the other candidates spent the majority of their comment time bloviating about mistakes that have been made and wishes and dreams about how things should be.
I want a representative who understands the issues, does his homework, and is creative in his approach to dealing with issues that affect not only the Ranchos, but the county as a whole. I think the cream rose to the top last night and I feel better knowing I have at least one choice for Supervisor who doesn’t need the paycheck, but truly wants to facilitate policy that will serve Madera County well into the future.
