The Madera County Board of Supervisors, who also are the Parkwood Water District Board of Directors, will be voting for a three-year water/sewer rate increase. Now you’re not talking about 10 percent or 15 percent increase, no, they are looking at getting a 250 percent to 300 percent increase in three years; that’s right, 250 percent to 300 percent rate increase in three years. They say that no increase has been in effect since 1995, and that we “enjoyed” not paying any rate increase in all that time.

That is not our fault. Blame it on our board of directors, who have done a lousy job on keeping up not only on the rates but also the fact that in 1995 we had three wells working, then we had two wells working, and now we are down to only one well working. We have experienced hours of no water pressure, or hours of so little pressure that if I turn the water on in the kitchen there is hardly any water coming out anywhere else in the house.

Oh, not only that, there is no phone number, other than the Sheriff’s Department (we were told to call them) to call to find out what happened to the water pressure, and I’m sure they would appreciate 300 to 600 calls within an hour.

So, tell me what increase in service have we had since 1995?

In my opinion, like any other business, if a department head does not perform the duties assigned to them then they should be the ones up in front of the Board of Supervisors and explain what they did wrong. They should be either replaced, fired, or made to pay for the errors.
