A few weeks ago my brother, Rod Colman, was involved in a car accident in Madera. Rod had recently moved to Madera and had no family or friends close by. So many Maderans came together to extend a helping hand and this is to say “Thank you”.

After the accident, he had to be transported by ambulance, leaving his car at the scene of the accident. A bystander, a young woman whose name we don’t know, pulled his car to a safe place and locked it up.

The policeman at the scene, put the key back on my brother’s key ring so it could go with him to the hospital, making it easier to retrieve the car which was still driveable.

His two neighbors at his country home kept an eye on the place when they realized my brother was not there. One neighbor even drove to the Madera hospital in an attempt to locate him but Rod had already been transferred to a San Jose hospital.

By the time I was alerted to my brother’s situation, a few days had transpired. Knowing he had a dog and three cats who were inside pets I was frantic and knew I needed to get them help, I went on line and found Pets, Plants, Plus+ owned by Jackie Jones and Sandra Oliver.

I live in New Jersey and was frantic about the welfare of my brother’s beloved pets.

Jackie did not know the neighborhood, the pets, or the condition of the pets; however, she is a dedicated animal lover and rushed to my brother’s house to see how she could help them.

Fortunately, my brother had left them plenty of food and enough water to sustain them. Unfortunately, my brother passed away after a week in the hospital. Throughout his hospital stay and until my husband and I could make arrangements to travel from New Jersey to California, Jackie cared for the pets and the property.

The dog has been adopted and Jackie is now looking for a home or homes for his three precious cats. Rod had rescued all of them and now they need rescuing again. Bless their little hearts.

My husband and I are in Madera now settling the business at hand. It is sad, grueling work but our hearts are always lightened during our forays into town. We have found the people, both employees and customers, at Pak N Save, to be warm and helpful. In fact, everyone we’ve come into contact with has been welcoming and friendly.

The purpose of this letter is to thank you wonderful people in Madera for all you did for my brother. It is so heartening to know that there are still people in this world who will reach out and help when needed. Madera will always have a special place in our hearts.
