Congratulations to District Attorney Michael Keitz and his excellent staff for the bringing home the conviction of Valentino Torres for cruelty to his precious pit bull.
God’s creatures should not ever have to suffer at the hands of such lowly beings, and Torres should have gotten far worse than he did (a year in jail). Until the punishment fits the crime, animal cruelty will continue. Torres should have been chained to a post without food, water or shelter until he felt the suffeirng he inflicted on his dog.
Just as in case of Rosalba de Gil Flores, who tied her adorable little poodle mix in her back yard for 1 1/2 years without any shelter and other basics, the punishment was not nearly enough. This little dog was slowly choking to death and did, indeed, die in the end and did not die easily despite the best medical care provided by Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter.
Until these animal abusers feel the pain they inflict, they will not understand. And, I wonder, too, why the neighbors on Clinton and Vine did not call Animal Control right away when they observed the suffering of this poor, helpless animal. They are just as much to blame.
It takes a village, folks, and until we all take responsibility for righting wrongs, we all suffer.
Thank you, Mr Keitz, for a job well done.
