The case of the selfish Santa

This Christmas shopping season will be as bad as the last, I'm afraid. It isn't that I don't like to shop. It's just that when I go out to shop for others, I wind up thinking of myself instead of them.
It happened again yesterday. I was in a local store, where I had gone for a specific thing, and found myself looking around for Christmas gifts. Right away, I saw something I thought one of our daughters might like, but right next to it was a display of electric razors. Now, I have an electric razor, but I have been thinking about getting another, because they are fun to play with. I actually shave with a blade razor most of the time, but every once in a while, I'll grab the electric razor. At the rate I use it, my electric razor will last about another 50 years, or until we run out of electricity, whichever comes first. But that new electric razor really looks nice, and it comes with a gadget which will clean it, so that if you need to perform surgery with it, it will be ready to go. And, it only costs about as much as my first car. I actually picked it up and started toward the checkout counter with it until I came to my senses.
"You're shopping for your daughter," I muttered. "Not yourself."
Then, I spotted a display of throws, which are little blankets you can put over your lap. "I ought to get each one of the kids one of these," I thought. Then, it occurred to me that each of those throws would have to be gift wrapped and sent. Which shouldn't be much of a problem for me, because Mrs. Doud always does that. But what if she decided not to this year? I'd be in real trouble. See what I mean?
