O’Neals student earns Bronze Star in Spring Valley 4-H

For Madera County 4-H

Jake Dowell, 10, a fifth grade student at Spring Valley School in O’Neals, is a third year member of 4-H. He currently has his Bronze Star and is the Spring Valley 4-H Club secretary this year.

Jake joined the Dixieland 4-H Club in 2009 as a mini member. Jake moved to Coarsegold and joined Spring Valley 4-H in 2010 as a mini member. He has been involved in several projects including mini gardens, dairy goats, meat goats, and veterinary science.

Jake enjoys showing his goats at the local fairs. He recently showed eight dairy goats at the Madera District Fair, where he won both Junior and Intermediate Dairy Goat Showmanship. He represented dairy goats in Intermediate Master Showmanship and received sixth place. He had the Predominant Breed Junior Champion, Senior Champion and Grand Champion. He also had the AOB Senior and Grand Champion Does, and Best Doe in Show.

Jake also showed two market goats and five breeding meat goats at the fair. He did very well in their classes. His market goat, Buddy, was the 4-H Champion Market Goat and the Grand Champion Market Goat. He had a great fair and in doing so was named the Outstanding Livestock Exhibitor...
