More police would have been welcome

Are the Madera police so short staffed that they can not respond to a traffic accident? On a recent weekend a vehicle ran the stop sign at Schnoor and Jefferson-Riverview, and totaled two vehicles. The cops were called.

While we were waiting for the cops, the one who ran the stop sign tried to get away; neighbors came and had to hold the perp to prevent a hit-andrun. After 20 minutes, still no cops. People walking by wanted to start to “punish” the perp. 911 was called again and it was explained that the cops had to come: people wanted to hurt the perp.

It still took another 20 minutes for law enforcement to respond.

What is wrong with Madera? We need cops to protect us. Even perps need to be protected. It’s in the Constitution whether we like it or not.

School district heads make six-digit salaries while the average Maderan cannot count on protection from law enforcement when needed. We need more cops and fewer high-paid administrators.
