Katelan Galleano is the 4-H county winner this year in fashion revue. Katelan is a senior at Madera High School where she is taking honors physics, Advanced Placement (AP) calculus AB, civics/economics, AP literature, human anatomy and physiology as well as Mandarin Chinese III outside of school.

She is also active on the varsity softball team as the designated player. Katelan’s projects in 4-H include sewing, dairy cattle, sheep and poultry. She has been involved with the Howard 4-H group since she was in second grade and is serving as the 2013-2014 club president.

In her sewing project, Katelan created a blue silk synthetic off the shoulder dress with a black lace overlay. The most challenging part of making her dress was the multiple layers near her zipper. The dress is knee length while the lace overlay comes up to the neck. While she was making the dress, Katelan faced the challenges of using boning to add shape to her dress as well as embellishing the waist line by adding a sapphire blue silk ribbon.

At fashion revue, Katelan got first in her category and age division, winning a brand new sewing machine from Evans Feed, and went on to the State Fashion Revue where she was one of the state gold medalists in the senior traditional division. She had a wonderful time competing as well as in the making of her dress...
