From family members of Gerald Warren:

We feel it was very unfair with Gerald Warren’s name being mentioned in a front page article of The Madera Tribune on July 20. There were four people shot in a car, and the word retaliation was used.

We, his family, feel like targets all over again six months later. Now, threatening phone calls of violence to our family are starting again. But we feel people should know since Gerald’s death there’s been no arrest, no connections; it’s as if it never happened. Since then we have put it in the hands of God, and pray for justice, and moved on with no regrets.

And now by this article on July 20, it put our family back in harm’s way again, and in a very unprofessional and uncaring way. We feel this is a critical mistake that should be addressed properly.

And how do you come to the conclusion of retaliation from Gerald’s family, if no one’s even questioned our family at all concerning the incident on July 19? How did you come to this conclusion, to put it on front page news, without the facts? And we feel these are very incriminating statements to our family without any proof, to slander our family in this way. And it should be corrected, properly.

Elvin Laurent,
Madera

(Editor’s note: The Madera Tribune regrets any unwarranted implication that any members of the family of Gerald Warren were involved in the July 19 shooting.)
