On Friday, Sept. 7, in the Madera Tribune on the opinion page was an editorial endorsing Frank Bigelow for Assembly District 5. There certainly was nothing wrong with that. Except it was alluded to that if elected, Rico Oller, running against Frank Bigelow, might slight Madera County because he is from Calaveras County. Wasn’t this assumption maybe a little premature? I know Rico Oller; in fact Rico is a friend of mine and I find Rico to be a very fair-minded person.
I notice Mono County sits geographically as far away from Calaveras County as Madera County does, and yet Rico garnered 58 percent of the vote in Mono County. I would hope the northern counties within this assembly district won’t be kept from voting for Frank Bigelow for the same reasoning because that would be equally unfair to Mr. Bigelow.
I agree with the editorial that Mr. Bigelow is a nice guy and has accomplished much on the local government level. In my opinion, some acc o m p l i s h m e n t s good and some not so good.
It was said a while back that Mr. Bigelow led the fight against Jerry Brown’s high-speed rail “boondoggle;” of course, that was after voting four times for it.
