The simple truth on why I did not prevail in the District 1 supervisorial race is that I just did not get the votes.

It does not get any more complicated than that, but I am humbled by the votes that were cast in our direction.

I cannot blame those who voted for my opponents as they had the courage to participate and voted their convictions and their hearts.

As to cause, we must look beyond the responsible citizenry to those ineffective, unsupportive souls who straddle the fence, hedge their bets or may not vote at all.

As I have said, the most serious compound problem facing us all is the ambivalent voter and the self-serving politician.

My very best wishes to whoever advances to the November general election and beyond.

You are accountable to the citizens of Madera County and we will be watching you.
