During this election your paper has treated me in a despicable manner. Your very first story announcing my candidacy falsely quoted me as saying Marcia Hall was “incompetent”. I never said this at any time. Your reporter never spoke to me, yet filled his story with my quotations. I called Hall immediately and told her I made no such accusation and that I would not make that accusation — and I haven’t made that accusation.

Your final story of this campaign falsely states that I criticized Hall for auditing the treasurer’s office and that I “implied” that I would not focus on auditing other departments. I have never criticized Hall for auditing the treasurer’s office, and I have never said, or implied, that I would not focus on auditing other county departments. In fact, I have stated repeatedly that I would recommend that the supervisors allow the hiring of two experienced auditors specifically to audit the other departments in the county — something that has not been done in over 10 years.

How could you get so many stories so completely wrong? Your bias in all of your writings has been so obvious a grade schooler could see it. Why you are so supportive of an outsider is very curious. Neither you, nor anyone from your office, ever bothered to talk to me about the campaign — unless it was to get my payment for an ad. Who got to you?

Todd Miller,
Madera County Auditor-Controller elect, Oakhurst
