Valley businessman dies at the age of 52

Casey Stephenson, owner of Warner Company Jewelers in Fresno, died Tuesday at age 52 after a year long battle with cancer. Although his life was taken early, he lived a life that was full and courageous.

He started working in the jewelry business at age 14, doing general maintenance and quickly worked his way into a sales position. By the time he was 22 years old, Stephenson owned his own jewelry stores in Lemoore and Hanford, called Casey's Jewelers. He managed all aspects of the company, including sales, watch repair, accounting and marketing.

Beatles friend and associate Neil Aspinall dies at age 66

NEW YORK - Neil Aspinall, a longtime friend of the Beatles who managed their business enterprises and helped make the group a moneymaking phenomenon decades after they split up, has died. He was 66.

Aspinall's death was announced Monday in a statement from surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the widows of John Lennon and George Harrison, and the band's Apple Corps Ltd. company.

Sheriff's Dept. mourns passing

William S. Tanaka, a reserve Madera County Sheriff's deputy and a state licensed clinical technician who retired in August 2005 after nearly 50 years of service, has died.

"After he retired we all said that his absence was a huge loss," said Sheriff John Anderson, "not just for us; he was a blessing to all law enforcement agencies and hospitals ... I would go so far as to say no one could beat, much less match, Bill's tenacity, style and wit." 

Tanaka's career in law enforcement began in 1957 drawing blood and doing lab work on countless suspects arrested by the sheriff's department, police and California Highway Patrol.
